My friends Rory, Amy and Erin came over last week to help me decorate the Christmas tree and make cookies. These are Alton Brown's sugar cookies and everyone at home and work agreed that they are the best sugar cookies ever. They aren't too sweet and are just delicious!
So see, I am still being (somewhat) crafty. ;)
I actually have been knitting since the last post. I figured out my error on the slipper I was ripping out and finished the pair. They are warm and cozy to wear. I've also got about half of a Chinese Wave dishcloth done, but I think it's on hiatus for the moment - it's no longer a gift and the pattern is annoying. I really need to find a non-slip stitch pattern to do - I've overdosed on them! I also knit a wee little Christmas gift that I hope will be enjoyed despite its simplicity.
I had and have all these grand knitting plans, but that's really all that's been done. I've been stressed with school and turning to my computer to relax instead of knitting. Now that I'm on winter vacation for the next six weeks, I hope to get more things made.
At the top of the list: an Ice Queen cowl in dark purple with sparkles for me, and a drop stitch scarf in brown and dark red for mom.
You all are going to wish Vox had some kind of cut feature before long. LOL Here is my weekend wrap up. See all of my pictures over at my Flickr tag.
Thursday
Biz and I got in around 8:30, hotel after 9. Train was late, and then
we stopped in the Indiana forests again. Oh, and rode backward the
whole time. That was lovely fun. *g* But! I knitted and Ames! I purled!
Like, easily and quickly and only screwed up the first two rows. *g* I
was so pleased.
We ate dinner, read some flyers and hit one room - the Doctor Who room. She bought a Dalek bank which is so cute. I considered the Tardis bank, but ultimately opted not. I also considered a Sonic Screwdriver pen that writes in blank ink or a UV one that can be used on the psychic paper to send notes back and forth. LOL! So cute. And I'm sure I'm not the only one to consider buying the Jack Harkness and Vala Mal Doran action figures to put them into compromising positions, right? I mean, it's Jack. And Vala. Jack and Vala!
Friday
Jennie finally got here about 1am Friday and we were up for over an hour
chatting. Woke up later than planned and headed for registration, then
the dealers room and brunch. The dealer's room didn't have as much
this year that I wanted, although I considered buying some yarn.
Rooms were quieter, too. The notebook ladies didn't really have notebooks I love this year, although I did find a Daniel/Vala that I bought, as well as a 2007/2008 calendar that I personalized with the Torchwood crew on the cover and the Jacks Harkness on the back. I really love it, and it's perfect for my purse. I also personalized a keychain - Ten in glasses on one side and Jack on the other. Yum. I thought about going back for a Nine/Ten keychain, but never made it.
I ended up buying two zines - Surfacing 1 and 2. It has authors I enjoy and some of the stories seemed amusing. So far, so good.
My *NSYNC panel was fun. Me, Jennie and another woman, sitting on the floor around my laptop watching old footage. We were laughing and talking and having such a good time that ladies leaving the panel next door peeked in to see what the topic was. From the room next door, they had figured it was a full room having a great time, rather than just three of us. LOL
Vid night was predominantly Supernatural. I've only seen about half an episode, but I feel like I know everything now. Except that people kept reusing the same scenes. And so many were about the boys relationship with their father and OMG there has to be other themes to explore. Ack. Only one Who vid and no Torchwood. Some of the vids were awesome, but I yawned through several others. LOL
Saturday
We slept in again (so long, 10am Eureka panel), but Biz had a noon panel and Jennie and I
hit the noon Bones one. Not bad, kind of fun. Then I went to Psych,
which was fun for most of it. Then back to our room to relax a bit, but
the maid was here, so we ducked down into the Who room down the hall. Still didn't buy anything, though.
BPAL panel was a blast. Four people came, one of whom had a huge stash, so we all got to sniff. Two of the ladies had visited the site so often but wanted to sniff before buying. They each left with lists two pages long. LOL! I fell in love with Bon Vivant, and the lady gave me her imp, since she had a bottle of it at home. Wheee! I'm very excited.
We tried to download the new Who, but so was everyone else in the hotel. The first attempt stalled after 8 hours, and the next four tries never got that far. V. annoying.
We lounged for several hours downstairs in the lobby with Jennie's laptop. Bones pilot first, and then Who (Girl in the Fireplace), Babylon 5 (x2) and the Bones Christmas. Fun times.
And then we come upstairs and I put on pajamas and hello, my back was covered in hives. From the couch, I would imagine, although it is also covered in the weave of my mesh hoodie. But since I wore the hoodie yesterday and all day today, I can only think it was the couch. Must have been cats laying there before me. So after that, every time we went downstairs to watch, I brought a towel to lean against. *g*
Sunday
I woke up Sunday morning at 11:15 and finally felt refreshed and
relaxed. Sweet!!! I was able to fully enjoy the day. I enjoyed Friday
and Saturday, of course, but I was still stressed and tense and unable
to really relax. Sunday changed all that.
It was a pretty quiet day. We hit the Sims 2 fandom panel, which was slow to start, but ultimately quite fun. Then Biz and I hit the art auction room. I actually found stuff that I loved, and bid on three things - two bracelets (one pink beads called Barbie Meets Xena and one blue Celtic) and a keychain with Jack Harkness and two Jack-related charms. There were awesome things all over. I ended up only winning the blue bracelet, but it was $7 and I absolutely love it. I have it on my wrist with Jack and Ten.
We watched two Torchwood episodes - pilot and Captain Jack Harkness - for Julia to get a taste of it. She didn't care for it as much, but the three of us were piles of goo all over again. Then we went upstairs to Julia's room to watch the newest Who - five attempts of downloading on Winnie never netted a full episode. It was a great ep, we all really enjoyed it and can't wait for next week.
Monday
I've discovered that when the picture charms
slide down to under my wrist, my three bracelets look gorgeous
together. I'm very pleased. It was funny, though - all morning, the
blue Celtic bracelet kept getting tangled in with Jack. We all agreed that of course Jack would be all
over anything, so it made perfect sense. Later on, after I'd fixed it, I noticed it was all
tangled again. I said that it was like Jack and it were married.
Not five seconds later, after stepping into the elevator, the bracelets had detangled perfectly and haven't mixed since. LOLOL We were dying. Jack is totally afraid of marriage, I guess!
Biz and I hit a writing panel at 11, which was meh, and now we're in the lobby - Jennie's watching Voayger, I'm catching up here and Biz is playing DS. A quiet afternoon.
I need to get a pic of my swag at some point. I got:
1 Daniel/Vala notebook
1 Jack/Tenth Doctor keychain
1 Torchwood purse calendar (team and Jack/Jack)
1 Tenth Doctor bracelet
1 Jack bracelet
1 blue Celtic bracelet
1 DVD of the Doctor Who Celebration Concert
1 Tenth Doctor/Martha keychain
2 SGA zines (Surfacing 1 and 2)
I think that's it. I am, in retrospect, a bit bummed that I did not get a little Dalek for my bookshelf. But I can easily buy one online, along with the sonic screwdriver pen I want. I also did not get a Jack teddy bear, but that's because her bears were little and hard, and I like big and fluffy. *g* I have her website and e-mail, though, and am thinking about e-mailing her to see if I can mail her a Build-A-Bear and have her outfit him as Jack.
So that's about it. Door decorations are coming down (not that we saw
much - we barely did any hall crawling this year), flyers are gone,
movie posters are down, everything is closed. We leave the hotel
tomorrow morning at 7, for a 7:43 train, so we will be packing and all
tonight. It was a lovely fun weekend, yay, and I am all registered and
paid for next year!
What are your weekend plans?
OMG I actually have weekend plans! *g*
Today, nothing much - watching two videos for class, commenting on them, reading through and uploading my paper.
Tomorrow, though! Tomorrow I'm going to Six Flags Great America with ames , Celli, and Celli's sister Shannon. Wheee! (A social life, OMG!)
In January, I decided that I was going to do one cool thing per month.
This shall be October's. I've been doing fairly well with that, but
haven't been blogging it here. I should. I'll try and remember to grab
the things I've done off my old blog. I think it's clear
that I'm here at Vox to stay.
